If something is incorrect or missing from your report, you can follow these steps to get it fixed:
1. Contact the bank, lender, provider, local council, or court
Not all lenders and banks share information with Equifax. Some share information with 1 credit reference agency, others might share with 2 or all 3 CRAs in the UK.
First, contact them to see why they're sharing it in this way or why it's missing from your report. If they can't help you with this or you disagree with their decision, see number 3 below.
If they don't share information with Equifax, then it won't show on your ClearScore report.
2. If your lender agrees – they’ll share the changes with our partner, Equifax
Sometimes, the credit provider might not agree with your correction. If this is the case, they’ll need to provide you with reasons why.
If you’re not satisfied with the actions made by the provider, you can challenge their decision. They can provide steps for you to make a complaint or escalate to the industry ombudsman and regulator.
3. Raise a dispute with Equifax
If you’re unable to get this resolved with the bank or lender, you can ask Equifax to look into it. If the lender doesn't agree with the dispute, credit reference agencies might not be able to change it either.
Before you raise a dispute – check that your ClearScore email address is verified. Go to your 'My Account' section, and select ‘Verify’ next to your email address. You might need to check your junk or spam folder for the verification email.
You can then raise a dispute using our contact form.
We get your credit report data from Equifax and they can make changes to your report. Equifax usually acknowledge they’ve received your dispute within 24 hours. It can take up to 28 days to resolve things, but it’s often much quicker.
If after disputing the lender or provider still doesn't agree to the change, you have a right to raise it with the industry ombudsman and or regulator. If it's a financial service this will be with the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS)
