Why this matters
An address you don’t recognise could be linked to:
incorrect information reported by a lender (for example, a credit card provider, loan provider, or car finance company),
an address association that doesn’t belong to you,
an account you don’t recognise.
It’s important to check this as soon as possible.
What to do
1. Review your credit report in ClearScore
Check your credit report in the ClearScore app first. Each account on your credit report shows the address it’s linked to. Reviewing your open and closed accounts can help you identify where the unfamiliar address is coming from.
If you find an account linked to an address you don’t recognise, contact that lender directly to ask them to correct it.
all your lenders have your correct address
your electoral roll details are correct (if applicable)
1. Check your providers and council
Make sure:
all your lenders have your correct address
your electoral roll details are correct (if applicable)
If a lender has recorded your address incorrectly, ask them to update it and report the correction to Equifax.
2. Raise a dispute with Equifax
If the address still doesn’t look right, you should raise a dispute with Equifax so they can investigate. Equifax will review the information with the relevant data provider and update your credit report if necessary.
