We'll show you insights impacting your score in your credit report.
Types of insights you might see in your report that are impacting your score:
- Action needed
Eg. Keep credit use low/ Keep hard searches low
- Monitor
Eg. 4 credit card withdrawals / Keep unsecured loans low
- Doing well
Eg. No accounts in arrears
Prioritise action-based insights as doing these will help you improve your score.
Confirm your identity
You can do this by registering for the electoral roll at your current address. This helps lenders check who you are – having a fixed address makes you look like a reliable person to lend to.
Build your credit history, if you don’t have one
The easiest way to do this is by getting and using a credit card. Try to spend a small amount every month and pay it back in full by setting up a Direct Debit.
Manage your debt responsibly
Pay on time and in full and keep your credit use between 10 - 70% and within your means. Lenders will see you’re able to manage your finances sensibly and you aren’t relying on credit alone.
Keep your information up to date
If there's something that doesn't look right or is missing from your report, you'll need to get this fixed. Contact the bank, lender, local council or court first to fix incorrect information. If they have not updated the details after 5 weeks, raise it with Equifax using our dispute form.
