Before raising a dispute with Equifax to consider the following:
- Account balance, new/closed accounts etc- your report gets updated every 30 days and if your waiting for information to show or drop off your report please wait 6-8 weeks before raising a dispute.
- Contact the bank or lender directly- If you don't recognise information or it's showing incorrectly on your report, the quickest option is usually to contact the credit provider directly to see why this information is showing.
If they agree to correct this information, they’ll give the changes to Equifax (our data provider) and it should show up on your report in the next 6-8 weeks.
Sometimes, the credit provider may not agree with your correction. If this is the case, they’ll need to provide you reasons why they disagree. If you’re not satisfied with the actions made by the provider, you can contact the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) or Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
If your financial account is missing, it could be for the following reasons:
- Your lender does not share their information- Not all providers share their information with Equifax (our data provider). If this is the case, we won’t be able to show this account on your report.
- Your savings account doesn’t have a credit facility- If your savings account doesn't have an overdraft facility, it will not be considered a 'credit account' and so may not show up on your report.
- Your account history is older than 10 years- If an account is more than 10 years old, it could be missing from your report because it is unlikely that the credit reference agencies will still hold this older data.
If your ‘Electoral Roll’ information is incorrect or not showing:
- Contact the local council- If you’re still showing registered at a past address, you can get this updated with your local council.
