The ? means that Equifax hasn't been able to find a credit report with your details. This is also known as ‘no file’ and 'thin file'. This is usually down to two reasons.
Don’t have any credit history
If you haven't got many credit accounts, Equifax won't able to find a score and report for you.
You can link your accounts and get a picture of how lenders see you and still use ClearScore to build your credit history.
6 weeks after signing up, we do another check to see if Equifax can get a credit report and score for you.
Credit history is too old
If you have 0 open credit accounts in the past 6 years, it will affect if you have enough activity for a credit score. Closed accounts have less impact the older they are before they're removed after 6 years.
There’s something you can do if don’t have any active open accounts - register on the electoral roll.
When lenders check your credit report and see that you're registered, it confirms your address and identity. This gives you a better chance of approval. Getting approved for credit helps you build a history and a score over time.
Accounts not showing on your credit report
Not all banks and lenders share data with all credit reference agencies. If you have accounts that are not on your ClearScore report, check if they share data with Equifax. If they don't, it won't show on your ClearScore credit report, powered by Equifax.
